Price: $495

Collaboration between two conceptualists results in some unexpectedly charming stuff. A structured handbag in a size that combines practical and desirable (is that luxury?). One interior slip pocket, half-moon handle, magnetic flap closure. Detachable strap/necklace made from mixed chain. Embossed logo on front. 6" h x 8" w x 3.5" d; 3.5" handle drop, 20" strap drop.

Rowena Sartin (LA, CA) the line has a modest veneer—small collections, limited distribution, an unhurried output—but is in actuality throwing down a series of gauntlets. It's an exploration not just of pattern, drape, and cut, but of conscious decision-making. This is a designer who thinks seriously about the ability of design to enrich our lives, and very little about “growth” or “market.” It’s not for everyone, only it is. What goes in to the daily decision of what to wear, and why? It's about a considered utility, yes, but also perhaps an easiness that allows one to go about the day without too much trouble or fuss, no costumes, and no pretense.
