This bag is something of a cross between apron, backpack, and utility vest. Adjustable canvas straps, large, lined, double pockets—separate interior and exterior, Riri zips. Its success lies in the balance—literally, as an object that distributes weight and proportion with perfect harmony; conceptually, as a commodity that appears both useless and useful, is fanciful and practical, that reflects both a nostalgic moment and an innovative hypothesis. This backpack, technical and functional, but equal parts design, is reflective of the Japanese fascination with paper. The polyamide body has a crinkled, papery texture, super light and water-resistant. Leather drawstring top closure, with chestnut leather laptop sleeve on the back with zip closure. Cushioned, adjustable shoulder straps, and over the shoulder strap for carrying option as well.

Such an interestingly designed bag, gently crushed, with a flip top closure, made seamless with complete leather covering. Which makes this purse looks like an un-classic handbag. One minimal strap is adjustable with brass hardware. Make it short, make it crossbody, or even wear it around the waist. Both lady like and highly unusual.

NB: This leather has been naturally dyed, keeping character and texture in mind. Natural variations of the leather surface occur in this process, sometimes resulting in color variation, light and dark.

"Less, but better"—Dieter Rams

The following text is by Tsatsas, on this special, special project:

A collaboration with one of today’s most important product designers, TSATSAS presents the model 931, a bag designed by Dieter Rams.

Dieter Rams, born in 1932 in Wiesbaden/Germany, is considered one of the most influential industrial designers of the past decades. His products for the companies Braun and Vitsoe inspire creatives around the globe to this day. The “Ten principles for good design,” which he formulated from the mid-1970s onwards, pointed even then to the challenges design in particular and our society as a whole are facing today more than ever.

Having worked in the field of product design for more than 40 years, Dieter Rams is still highly topical. With missionary zeal, he continues to claim to this day that the correct understanding of design can help create a better world.

In 1963 Dieter Rams designed a handbag made of leather for his wife Ingeborg, whom he met in 1955 when she was working for Braun as a photographer. It was while working for Braun himself, where he was chief designer from 1961 until 1995, that Rams engaged more strongly with the material leather, collaborating with leather crafting workshops in Offenbach/Main for the company’s shaver cases. And it was there that he had the idea of surprising his wife with a leather bag, yet it remained a one-off.

55 years later, TSATSAS is proud to introduce this very bag to the market. The label’s design philosophy – to create timeless bags and accessories with a clear design language that give rise to lasting shapes without any aesthetic expiry date – was easy to reconcile with Rams’ expectations of a product.

So reduced and simultaneously concise that it unavoidably calls to mind Rams products, 931 is as up-to-date today as it was in 1963 and effortlessly bridges five decades of design history.

The highest quality shrunken lamb nappa, with pacific blue nappa lining. Hand-held or with removable, adjustable shoulder strap. Two distinct sections divided by a middle compartment closed with a snap. One large zip close pocket, two additional compartments, and a small mirror with with leather case. Magnetic top closure. Embossed with an abstracted cityscape, full on, all over, with the Comme des Garçons logo embedded throughout. Gold zipper. Squarish wallet with zip closure. Four card compartments, one long bill compartment, coin pouch. Tone on tone.

Mineral washed for softness, hand-dyed with all-natural ingredients foraged from Ms. Reynold's home, travels, and who knows where else? Each hue is composed of, and extracted in an earth kiln, heated to specific temperature and applied at its most vibrant. The technique results in a dimensionality of color, lived in, but not overworked.
